I have two dreams which haven’t changed since I was in second grade in elementary school. The one was to run in Hakone in a long distance relay race, the other is to run a marathon in Olympics as a Japanese representative. I did not write “ is” but “was” because I failed to pass the exam for the college that I wanted to go to since I was thirteen years old and it is impossible for me to run in Hakone long distance relay race.
Moreover, as I became nineteen years old, in other words, the year that I have to turn my eyes to reality, I tend to give up. Although I am interested in track and field because my father runs in the weekend as his hobby, but mostly, the reason I like running is I can forget all things including hateful stuff and become refreshed when I am running. When I was a junior high school student, I thought I would rather go my own way and do something rather than toil away for a company, and trying to fit into the mold gets me nowhere.
The following is what I was interested in when I belonged to track and field clubs. First, how do I run efficiently? Second, are there relations between mental state and performance. Therefore, to study sports-science is my dream, too. Of course, I will not give up this dream. But, I cannot make up my mind to abandon the dream of being a runner.
By the way, what is the difference between an ideal world and actuality? Of course, almost all the people cannot always proceed with things they want to do. If anything, many people must struggle between the dream and the fact. I have not found out yet the solution for facing the reality. So, I can’t state the solution yet.
However, while I think this answer is made up of something I will never find, I find out something little by little. It is that the dream involves one’s determination very much. We maybe have to believe our dream until we die, even after we die. And, it is sure, pretty sure, that we must thank the present situation before we seek our dream or aim too high. We should be thankful for being born healthy and normal. We should thank our parents for bringing us up in spite of much trouble. We should be thankful for being able to drink and eat every day. We should thank my admirable friends who we have met by now and will encounter in the future. It is very difficult to notice ordinary things and be thankful for them without thinking they are usual.
I think I will start to be thankful above all.
I think I will try to run a marathon.
I think “Sport is the reason for living”.
